Filt1860 combines traditional craftsmanship with technological innovation to offer high-quality cords and braids, while maintaining an eco-responsible approach.
Our production is entirely based in France, which helps reduce transport-related emissions and support the local economy. We use durable materials certified OEKO-TEX Standard 100, guaranteeing the absence of heavy metals and azo dyes.
We also work with GOTS-certified organic cotton, recognised for its strict social and environmental standards.
In addition, we have developed a range of wick yarns in organic cotton eligible for ECOCERT certification, paving the way for increasingly sustainable solutions.

At Filt1860, we search constantly to develop our know how and promote French industry in the whole world. That’s why in 2006, Filt1860 decided to revive the Norman manufacture’s production of candles wicks. Our vision ? To perpetuate traditional Norman know-how.
Expertise and Cutting-Edge Technology
Our braiding division is equipped with more than 200 braiding heads, including 3, 8, 12 and 16-carrier braiders, as well as automatic assembling machines and precision finishing equipment. These modern facilities enable us to dedicate 50% of our production to customised products, thereby reducing waste and avoiding unnecessary stock accumulation.
We work with a wide range of raw materials:
- Natural fibres: cotton, linen.
- Synthetic fibres: polypropylene, polyamide, polyester.
- High-performance fibres: Kermel©, UHMWPE, aramids, as well as metallic threads (tin, copper, stainless steel, Basaltex®).
This diversity of materials allows us to meet a variety of technical requirements, from mechanical strength to environmental durability.
We also adapt our wick diameters, which can range from 1 mm to 60 mm (depending on the model). Custom packaging is also available.
Product Range and Technical Applications
- We offer a broad range of products designed for specific uses:
- Candle wicks: made from cotton or linen with hydrophilic treatments, optimised for efficient and environmentally friendly burning. We also offer organic cotton wicks eligible for ECOCERT certification, as well as standard or customised models (flat, square, round, twisted, reinforced).
- Technical cords and braids: for applications requiring flexibility, strength and precision.
- Our braiding expertise also allows us to produce elastic cords, bungee cords, draw cords, pulling cords and ropes for seaweed cultivation.
We work with artisan candle makers (decorative and scented candles), industrial manufacturers, beekeeping equipment suppliers and candleworks. Our wicks are also ideal for creative hobby kits.
